Kindergartners
Go Girl! You can do it…Even without help!
.
.
Wow! We have made it to the “school age”! If you are like many mothers of multiples, your life is MUCH easier now that the kids are going to school for a few hours each day. Congratulations mom!! Enjoy these years – as I hear they are some of the most fun (and we already know they will be busy – but nothing can be quite like those first couple of years, huh??!!)
Hints for Making it Easier
*Enjoy your kids, you deserve it.
*Keep a few band aids and Bactine with you.
*Take advantage of “play dates” with their friends and school mates. You can often trade off time with other, “regular” moms now (they often have more than one child now too! Just like you! But theirs are not all the same age…)
*No more strollers for the multiples! Or diaper bags! Can you believe it??
*Remember to take snacks and water and sunscreen. Snacks can help ward off low-blood sugar and crying fits.
*Play dates work best for only an hour or two. Don’t over stay your welcome, as kids get cranky and moms get less willing to try it again…
List of Places
- Almost any park is great now with kindergartners. The dangers with multiples are much less than they were before (running off, falling off, etc.) You are more like a “normal” mom now! You can actually sit on a bench and talk with other moms! Still keep on eye on the kids, of course!
- Chuck E. Cheese in T.O. or Simi Valley is fun but crowded on night or weekends. If you do half-day school, try it occasionally on a ½ day to avoid crowds. I find the Simi CEC easier to watch multiples at – but both places do a good job of “security” with the hand stamps.
- Try out classes at your Parks and Rec’s department, YMCA, dance studios, or other after-school offerings.
- Now is the era when kids start organized sports. Look into AYSO, Little League, etc. It’s fun if somewhat busy.
- Check out “Bright Child” in Oak Park for a fun, indoor play area. A bit pricey but very clean and safe. There is even a café inside so you can eat “adult” foods while the kiddies enjoy PB&J (you have to buy that there too…they don’t allow you to take in your own food)
